SCALE OF WAGES FIXED. ARBITRATION COURT AWARE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Kight. The Arbitration Court has filed its award in regard to the dispute between the Australasian Institution of Marine Engineers’ Industrial Union (Wellington district) and the owners of small coastal steamers. The wages per calendar month shall be: Chief or only engineer of steamers under 20 n.h.p., £26 3s 4d; 20 to under 40 n.h.p., £2B 3s 4d; 50 to under 60 n.h.p., £2B 13s 4d; 60 to under 80 n.h.p., £29 3s 4d; 80 to under 100 n.h.p., £3] 3s 4d; 100 to 150 n.h.p., £32 3s 4d; 150 to 200 n.h.p., £33 3s 4d; second engineers under 80 n.h.p., £23 3s 4d; 80 to under 150 n.h.p., £24 3s 4d; 150 to under 200 n.h.p., £25 3s 4d; third engineers under 100 n.h.p., £2O 3s 4d; 100 to 150 n.h.p., £2l 13s 4d; 150 to under 200 n.h.p.. £22 13s 4d. In the case of certain steamers, in consequence of the hours worked, a bonus of 5 per cent, in addition to the above rates shall be paid so long as only two engineers are employed on them and they remain in the trade in which they are at present engaged. The scale does not prescribe the number of engineers to be carried on any steamer. Extra rates are allowed for steamers with freezers, and whenever a vessel is engaged on an excursion on Sunday or a holiday. The award is not to apply to vessels plying within extended river limits, but shall be filed in such other districts besides Wellington as the Court may direct. The award is to come into force on November 1, and continue in operation till September 30 next.
