GERMAN GOVERNMENT.
ANOTHER CRISIS IMPENDING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Berlin, Oct. 24. Herr Wirth, the Premier, is threatened by another Ministerial crisis owing, firstly, to the total failure of the decree prohibiting free dealing in foreign exchange. Its immediate revocation is demanded. This is opposed by the United Socialists, the ■ strongest party. The second cause is the rise in the price of foodstuffs. Agriculturists are bound to sell to the State 2,500,000 tons of grain at the controlled price. The bread and flour from this will be sold at the controlled price. The farmers’ prices were doubled a fortnight ago, the price of bread and flour also being doubled. Farmers are now demanding that prices shall be quadrupled. The Socialists are intervening, The advent of winter, the absence of fuel, and the prohibitive price of food are causing widespread strain. The Monarchists are believed to be planning an anti-Republican coup, and attempts on Ministers. On the other hand a popular uprising is feared in November. . Herr Wirth’s conference with the party leaders ended in a compromise on the price of corn, but a crisis may develop at any moment. The questions of I exchanges and reparations threaten to cause a split between the Socialists and the rest of the Coalition. Herr Wirth, addressing the political ■ leaders, said that, in view of the financial situation, the Governments policy was no longer to carry out reparation payments.
