DAIRY POOL.
THE SCHEME HELD UP.
THE MEASURE TALKED OUT. OPPOSITION BEFORE COMMITTEE PLEA FOR MORE TIME. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The debate on the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill in the House to-day did not reveal clearly the strength of the opposition to the Bill, but it appeared that other members of the opposition were prepared to resist the Bill, and significance may be attached to the Prime Minister’s statement that at this stage of the session he could not spare time for a lengthy debate. The report of the committee recommending that the Bill should be allowed to proceed with amendments was talked out. That means that the Bill lias not yet returned to the House. It remains in a state of suspense and the amendments that have been made by the committee arc not known to the House. The Prime Minister can arrange for the resumption of the debate any afternoon, but probably the opponents of the Bill are strong enough to talk it out again. The outstanding fact of the position is that the Government cannot get the Bill through this session without spending a lot of time on it and Mr. Massey may not be prepared to give the time. Your correspondent gathered later in the evening that the Government intends to give the House an opportunity to reach a division on the report of tie committee. The question probably will come forward again to-morrow afternoon. If the members who are opposing the Bill are firm in their attitude the Bill will not reach the Statute Book this session.
