The first cricket match to take place for many years on what is known as Poverty Flat, was played there by the Central schoolboys last week. The headmaster (Mr. H. A. Stratford) thinks it quite probable that most of the matches can be played on the school’s own ground this year. The attention of old boys of the High School is called to the annual meeting and reunion to be held at the school on Saturday next, commencing at 8 p.m. Tickets for the reunion must be obtained before Friday. A pleasant evening’s entertainment was provided at the Salvation Army barracks, New Plymouth, last night, by the Young People’s Legion from Inglewood, who, under the direction of Captain Lillington, gave a programme of recitation, dialogues, company songs, etc. There was a good attendance, whilst several stalls were well patronised. The entertainment was in aid of the army’s self-denial funds, and the festival will he continued to-night, when the Whiteley Choir will provide the entertainment. A sale of work will be held at the barracks this afternoon.
