BUSH FIRES.

IN NAPIER DISTRICT. TIMBER MILL DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. Bush and grass fires at Puketitiri, thirty odd miles inland from Napier, started on Friday last and soon damaged a number of fences and made the removal of stock to places of safety necessary. The gale on Saturday caused a rapid spread, which was checked in the evening by rain. The wind again increased on Sunday night and Monday, and. despite the efforts of those on the spot, the Glenore timber mill, the whole of the plant and outbuildings, including several cottages, were destroyed, while outbuildings at Holts mill were also burned.

Losses of stock are reported. The position improved to-day, but vigilance is still necessary. Communication by telephone is difficult.
