LIQUOR AT A SHOW.
CURTAILMENT OF HOURS. Some surprise was expressed at the Leeston A. &. P- show by members of the committee that the license for a booth on the ground was made to operate until three o’clock only instead of five o'clock, as has been the custom for many years. The reason for the reduction is not apparent, as it is generally after three o’clock, when the work of the show is practically over, that the booth is most availed of. It is understood the elected members of the Licensing Committee were opposed to the reduction, but were not in any case consulted, the curtailing of the hours being decided by the ex officio chairman of the committee, the magistrate for the district, who happens to be Mr. Wyvern Wilson, acting on his own initiative. The privilege is one of the sources of revenue of the association, and naturally the curtailment makes it of less value. The Leeston show is the first of the season, and other associations will probably be treated similarly.
