With five wickets down for 147, Ceylon declared. Gilson captured two wickets for 26, Hartley for 33, Calthorpe one for 19, Hill Wood one for 21. McLaren’s side lost four wickets for 100 (Titchmarsh 41, Wilkinson 6, Calthorpe 20, Chapman 19, Hill Wood not out 3, Lorry not out 5, extras 6). The match was drawn. STRATFORD v. KAPONGA. The weather was very unfavorable for the opening of the cricket season at Kaponga, when Stratford and Kaponga met for the first match of the competitions. Owing to the light failing the game was unfinished. Stratford, batting first, made 118, and Kaponga replied with 108 for seven wickets, when the game was stopped. Scores:

The first of the cricket fixtures were played on the Manala Domain on Saturday, between Eltham A and Manaia A teams, and resulted In a win for Manaia by 74 runs on the first innings. Eltham, going In first, were disposed of for 28 runs. Manaia put up the respectable score of 102. For Eltham, C. Little was the top scorer, making 13. For Manaia, C. Haynes 26, Judd 18, H. Hughes 22, and J. S. McKay 14 were the most successful batsmen. Eltham, going In for their second innings, made a very fine stand, and put tip the respectable score of 129. Manaia wanted 55 runs to make a three-point win, but time was up. The bowling honors were: Manaia—Balrstow, six for 17 ; H. Hughes, four for 9; Eltham—J. Fearon, five for 54; C. Little, two for 13.

HAWERA v. PATEA. On Monday, Hawera played Patea at the latter place. Hawera made 175 (Pratt 47, Penny 36, Jarvis 23, Reading 17) and Patea .95 (Hoult 24, Smith 19, Hamel 11). In their second essay Patea made 92 for nine wickets. The best bowlers were: For Hawera—Penny, three for 7 and three for 21; for Patea—Ormsby, three for 21; Findlay, two for 3. HAWERA v. NORMANBY. A Hawera Wednesday team played Normanby on Monday. Hawera in the first innings made 72, and Normanby 32. In the second innings Normanby complied 48, and Hawera lost four wickets for 26.
