THE BUTTER MARKET.

POSITION IN LONDON. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Oct. 22, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 21. The butter market' is in an unsatisfactory position, and the optimism of a fortnight ago has disappeared. Many tetailere are getting nervous about the stocks they put aside during the summer to tide over the period of shortage they anticipated during October and November. High retail prices have checked consumption, which is now far below expectations, and consequently some holders are anxious to reduce their •stocks and are pressing sales, thus depressing quotations. —Aus.-N.Z.
