PRINCE OF WALES.
RECEPTION AT GUILDHALL. CONDITIONS IN INDIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Oct. 20. The Prince of Wales was officially welcomed at the Guildhall on his return from the Eastern tour. Replying to ax» address, the Prince said the chief object of his visit was to gain as much experience as possible of the Indian Empire, and secondly to thank the Indian people for their services during the war. He had conversed with leaders of all parties, who were striving to make a success of the newly-formed constitution. There was unfortunately another section in opposition, but conflict of ideas was inevitable in a. vast population of three hundred millions, where the masses were so uneducated. Nevertheless, the bulk of Indians were desirous of peaceful progress on constitutional lines. His visit to Japan enabled him not only to renew his personal friendship with the Prince Regent, 'but to revive the traditional ties so long existing between the two island countries. Mr. Lloyd George, in proposing the Prince’s health at luncheon, received a great ovation. He expressed regret that the transient and disenchanted ghost of n dying gladiator was proposing the toast. There migh* be divisions between parties, but there was no division in attachment to and affection for the Prince of Wales, who had gone to India and carried out his duties courageously and with boldness.
