CANTERBURY MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, Last N?“ht. healthy tone in business circles is being maintained, there being movement in practica’ly every line; in fact, Jast week has been t»i<j busiest for many months past, and present indications are that the briskness will continue. Clovers are going as well as at any time during the last fortnight, white being in particularly good demand. The price paid to farmers f or this Is from Is to Is 6d, and for red from 9V(:d to lid. The line that Is going best of all at present, however, Is ryegrass, although there has not been any appreciation In prices paid.
Fowlwheat is still going well, with no signs of the demand easing off. Oats continue to be in demand, orders from Britain and Australia being responsible for this. A keen demand for Algerians is being made from Australia, which is being met by stocks held by merchants. Prices to farmers are based on the f.o.b. prices to Australia. Bran and pollard are also being eagerly enquired for from Australia, but as they are in short supply, orders cannot be fulfilled. Not a great deal is being done in potatoes at present, most of the orders, being now met. New potatoes are on the market at Auckland and Wellington, bat owing to the high prices old potatoes will continue to be asked for until the end of the month.
One line that Is not sharing in the present revival is cocksfoot, which is practically dead, the competition of Danish seed being evidently too much for it.
