EMIGRANTS’ QUESTIONS. “FIERCE NATIVE BEARS.” London, September 26. The weekly average of men committing suicide through solitude?— Are spider-biteg fatal?—The number of cowboys using revolvers?— Do native bears attack sheep?—These are samples of the questions which Mir. Barnes, Commonwealth Migration Director, encountered at a meeting in Kent, held upder the patronage of the vicars of two .villages. A small band of Communiats' de- . dared that the migration - scheme was a snare to catch men ror cannon fodder for the Japanese, basing their assertions on a statement attributed to Sir James Mitchell, Premier of Western Australia, concerning the value of engineers for the production of munitions in Australia in the event of war. Mr. Barnes eaid that he was astonished at such ignorance regarding Australia.
