LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY.

TRAIN STRIKES MOTOR LORRY. ONE KILLED; ONE INJURED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. After passing the Porirua station, on its way northwards, this afternoon, the Auck-land-bound express, which left Wellington at 12.45 p.m., crashed into a motor lorryon a crossing. The driver of the lorry and a companion received the full effect of the collision, one being killed and the other seriously injured. The injured man was attended by a doctor from the Mental Hospital, while the body of the other was conveyed to the hospital. The engine drawing the train was damaged and was unable to proceed, the train being hung up till another engine reached the scene from Paekakariki. The driver who was killed was John Edwin Canning, a married man, 48 years of age, residing at 34 May Street, Wellington. He was a brother of Constable Canning, of Wellington.
