CAULFIELD MEETING. THE SECOND DAY'S RESULTS. PURSER BEATS EURYTHMIC. By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.- —Copyright. Received Oct. 18, 8.30 p.m. Melbourne. Oct. 18. The Caulfield races were continued to-day. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. There was a big field in the Mona Nursery Handicap. Royal Thought made a good run in the straight and won well. Royal Thought cost the owner (Mr. Eccles) £325. Great excitement was caused by the defeat of Eurythmic in the Herbert Power Stakes. Purser, who was lying sixth at the mile, was third into the straight. It was a alow race at. the beginning, but the last halfmile was covered in 48%sec., and the last six furlongs in Imin. 14%see. Purser is engaged in the Caulfield Cup with 8.7. The principal results are:— MONA NURSERY HANDICAP.—RoyaI Thought 7.12 1, Black Scot 8.1 2, Haloed 7.12 3. Twenty-four starters. Won by half a length. Two lengths separated second and third. Time, 56%sec. HERBERT POWER STAKES.—Purser 9.1 1, Eurythmic 10.(1 2, David 10. Q 3. Ten starters. Kennepil took the lead early, and Eurythmic was second. In the last six furlongs Eurythmic caune up fast on the outside and just failed to win, being beaten by half a neck, with three-quarters of a length between second and third. The Cypher was ninth. Time, 2mtn. 31%sec. COONGY HANDICAP.—Paratoo 6.13 1, Double Bezique 7.12 2, Master Vibrator 7.9 3. Twenty-one starters. Gentian led for six furlongs. Then Tangalooma went to the front and led into the straight. Paratoo, who occupied third position at the half-mile, won easily by three lengths, the third horse being three lengths away. Stare was fifth, and Tangalooma tenth. Time, 2min. 19%sec. The race was a record, the last half furlong being done In s%sec. TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the district commiti’e of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. L. A. Nolan presiding. Others present were: Messrs. B. H. Chaney, J. M'Leod, D. J. Malone, J. Gray, H. Washer, O. W. Sole, S. Pitt, and G. Fraser. The Stratford Racing Club’s programme for a meeting on January 1 and 2 was approved. The New Zealand Racing Conference advised that trainers’ licenses had been granted to P. R. Edwards (conditional) and E. J. Murtagh, while a conditional jockey’s license had been issued to J. Lambess.
