NEARLY 250 MILES AN HOUR. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received October 17, 7.35 p.m. New York, Oct. 17. At Mount Clemens, Michigan, Lieut. R. L. Maughan established an airplane speed record of 248 J miles per hour. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. At Mount Clemens last week, Lieutenant Maughan, piloting an army Curtiss high speed pursuit ’plane, won the Pulitzer special trophy, travelling 160 miles at 207 miles per hour. Lieutenant Maitland, piloting a sister ’plane, travelled 50 kilometres at 216 1-10 miles per hour.
