The Irregular commandant Nulretan, whose daring exploits are widely known, was mortally wounded, refusing to surrender, during a brisk engagement at Ballaghaderreen, East Mayo, which Nationals encircled and searched. A quantity of looted goods was recovered. One hundred and forty prisoners escaped from an internment camp at Newbridge Barracks, near Curragh, through a disused sewerage drain. Twenty-seven were recaptured. REBELS TIRE OF WARFARE. Received October 17, 11.15 p.m. London, Oct. 17. A considerable number of Irregulars in County Donegal laid down their arms under the amnesty and returned to their homes. BOMB OUTRAGE 'FRUSTRATED. London, October 16. An attempt to damage the residence of the Lord Mayor of Belfast was frustrated by the police, who observed several persons at the entrance. When challenged, the intruders- fled and were fired on. The police discovered a Mills bomb surrounded by flat-nosed bullets. No arrests were made.
