DOUBLE TAXATION.

COMPANIES WHICH PAY TWICE. SOME RELIEF SOUGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 15, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 13. Sir Francis Bell received a deputation of the New Zealand and Australian Agents’ Association, who urged the necessity for reducing the heavy taxation on companies having their head offices in London, and asking that the New Zealand Government should sanction the proposals of the New Zealand taxation committee, particularly the removal of the double income tax and the adoption of an individual system of taxation. The deputation pointed out that some companies were taxed to the extent of 11/9 in the £, in addition to the British corporation profits tax. Sir Francis Bell promised to lay the deputation’s views before the Government. He said he and the Government recognised that the companies represented were doing good work for the Dominion, and instead of crippling them by taxation, their suggestions should receive consideration as far as practicable.—Aus.-N.Z.
