CAULFIELD CARNIVAL OPENS.

The weather was fine and bright and there was a big attendance for the opening of the V.A.T.C. spring meeting. The going was good. There was some delay at the barrier in the Debutant Stakes. King Carnival, carrying a lOlbs. penalty, led from below the distance and won brilliantly. He cost £650 as a yearling., The favorite, Lady Reynard, took the turn wide. H. Cairns rode the winner. Eurythmic was the popular favorite in the Caulfield Stakes. Violoncello led Into the straight. Eurythmic, who was sixth in the early stages, was third at the turn, and came cut from inside the distance and won decisively, amidst great cheering, from his stable mate, Tangalooma. Tfxese horses have ran first and second in this race for the last three years. Eurythmic has now won £35,166 in stakes. The time is a record for the race, but threequarters of a second outside Desert Gold's course record. In the Guineas Soorak was always well up and won brilliantly. The time equals the race record. The first four furlongs took 51%sec., the last four 48%sec., and the last six Imin. 14%sec. An outsider in The Tyrant won the Toorak Handicap in great style. The favorite, Fleuriste, ran ninth. Menmin was fifth in the early stages and finished eighth. R. Bradfield trains the winner. The principal results are:— DEBUTANT STAKES.—King Carnival 8.10 1, Northcliff 8.0 2, Threefold 8.0 3. Nineteen started. Won by three-quarters of a length, a head between second and third. Time 50& sec. CAULFIELD STAKES.—Eurythmic 9.4 1, Tangalooma 9.1 2, Harvest King 9.0 3. Thirteen started. Won by a length, a neck Between second and third. Time, Imin. 53%sec. GUINEAS.—Soorak 8.7 (J. Pike) 1, Whittier (C. Boyd) 2, Prince Tressady (W. Duncan) 3. Eleven started. Soorak led for a furlong. Cliffdale was then in front to the distance, where Soorak took charge and won by two and a half lengths, the third horse a length away. Time, Imin. 41sec. TOORAK HANDICAP—The Tyrant 7.G 1, Momentum 6.11 2, Gilray 9.3 3. Eighteen started. Easingwold led into the straight, but The Tyrant went to the front at the half distance and won by three-quarters of a length. Four lengths separated second and third. Time, Imin. 41%sec. Received Oct. 15, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 15. The City Tattersalls Handicap resulted: Oranian 1, Teremakau 2, Fair Rosaleen 3. Time, 2min. s%sec. THE ENGLISH TURF. London, Oct. 13.
