Mr. W. P. Kirkwood, of Stratford, who has been away on a trip to Europe, returned by the Niagara yesterday. Mr. A. E. Porritt has been chosen as the Otago nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship.—Press Association. The King gave an audience to Sir William Allardyce, formerly/Governor of Tasmania, on his appointment as Governor of Newfoundland. A London cablegram* eays that all classes of the community were represented at Miss Marie Lloyd’s funeral There were car-loads of wreaths from theatrical organisations, leading jockeys, boxers, costers land flower sellers. Mr. P. Hally, who has been to New Plymouth in connection with a sitting of the Conciliation Council to consider a point in regard to the recently-made Dominion award for the baking trade, leaves on his return home by the mail train this morning.
