ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS.

END OF 192-2 SESSIONS. The New Plymouth Accountants Students’ Association partook of tea at May and Arrowsmith’s last evening, 'mere was a good attendance, and Mr. C. H. Burgess (president) in the chair. After formal business had been transacted, the chairmari called upon Mr. T. C. List (president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce) to address the meeting. The address was entitled, “Some Things that Matter.” in which the speaker showed the value of a know • ledge of accountancy in every walk of life, the need for efficiency in business,, the value of service to the community, the giving of proper values to sports and pleasures, the advantages of concentration on work and proper training of mind and body. Great emphasis was placed upon character in .‘business or practise, and a strong appeal made to the students to prepare themselves to take part in the affairs and the government of the town. The speaker •pointed out the great advantages which the young people enjoyed in New Zealand," and particularly in Taranaki, compared with conditions obtaining in other countries, and urged them to. play their part in building up the nation. Some of the matters touched upon are reported elsewhere. At its conclusion Mr. C. H. Dawson moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. List for what he described as an interesting, instructive and helpful address. ' The clwiirman and Mt. . Enc Shaw supported the motion, which was enthusiastically carried. Mr. W. H. Robertshaw, in proposing a vote of thanks to the president for the active interest he had manifested during the students’ sessions, .paid a warm tribute to his services, not only on behalf of the students, but on behalf of the town and district, and also acknowledged the splendid work done by Mrs. Burgess. Their self-abnegation and unselfish services to the town and district would never bo forgotten, and would always be an inspiration to others to do whatever they could in the Interests of the community. The vote was carried, as was another according thanks to those who had contributed papers or addresses during the past sessions.
