Mr. Clement Wragge, of Auckland, is at present seriously ill, and has had: to postpone a proposed lecture tour of the Dominion.

A London message says that the Duke of York has gone to Roumania to represent the King and Queen at King Ferdinand’s coronation.

Mr. N. Kieley, ex-Superintendent of Police in the Auckland district, who has been on a holiday visit to Taranaki, spent the week-end in New Plymouth. He left by the mail train yesterday morning. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) leaves for Wellington this morning in connection with business relating to the borough.

The marriage was celebrated at Feeding on Thursday of Dr. Andrew Young, of Hawera, and Miss Agnes Isabel Bartholomew, only daughter and youngest child of Mr. ‘and Mrs. George Bartholomew, of Feilding. The Rev. Dr. Cumming, M.A., M.Se., of Dunedin, who is professor of Hebrew at the southern University, was last night nominated by the Wellington Presbytery for the moderatorship of the General Assembly.—Press Association.

The many friends of Mr. Ron. Macdonald, who left New Plymouth some weeks ago for Honolulu, will regret to learn that, following sunstroke, he has had a paralytic seizure. He is now on his way back under medical supervision, and cable news received from Suva on Monday by his brother, Mr. A. B. MacDonald, was such as to cause grave anxiety. The Rev. C. F. Askew, 11 years vicar of St. Marks, Wellington, has resigned, desiring a less strenuous sphere after the strain of the past five years, during which he was very active in connection with the new Anglican Cathedral. He has accepted the living of Nelson, shortly vacant owing to the resignation of Dr. Weekes, who is going to Australia.

Recently Mr. Gilbert Carson, exM.L.C., celebrated his eightieth birthday. It is forty-eight years since Mr? Carson went from Wellington to Wanganui to become proprietor of the Chronicle, and up till four years ago, when he was invalided by physical dis. ability, he played a prominent part in the public life of Wanganui. Although physically disabled, and consequently confined to his home, Mr. Carson is as keenly interested as ever in national and local affairs.
