CRICKET

ENGLISH CRICKETERS. 6 By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, October 10. The local Cricket Association has accepted the offer of the Cricket Council to manage two tests at Wellington for 10 per cent, of the net proceeds. A match at Nelson on January 30 and 31, against 13 of Nelson and Marlborough, has been added to the programme. TARANAKI MATCH UNLIKELY. Little hope remains of Taranaki being included in the Itinerary of the English team of cricketers at present en route to New Zealand. Despite strong recommendations made by the North Taranaki Cricket Association, the New Zealand Cricket Council remains adamant. A letter received by the association from the council reads: "The management committee held a meeting to consider your letter protesting against having been omitted from the suggested programme of the English team’s tour through New Zealand, and asking for further consideration of your request to hare a match allotted to your association. From the enclosed copy of the itinerary, definitely decided upon, you will observe that the committee have been unable to meet your wishes, and I am directed to advise you that it was with considerable regret found impossible, under the circumstances, to come to any other declsiofi. My committee hope you will realise the position it was placed in by having to disappoint so many of the minor associations who made application to be included in the itinerary. The programme as framed, is, in the opinion of the committee, the most satisfactory one which could be decided upon in the interests of Dominion cricket, and you will see that there are 13 matches provided for—seven allotted to the North Island and six to the South Island.’’
