BANKING RETURNS.
STEADY IMPROVEMENT. By Telecraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 7. The banking returns for September show a steady improvement in the economic conditions since the worst of the slump passed in the middle of 1921. The figures for the six banks trading in New Zealand, with the increases or decreases compared with the corresponding quarter last year, are: Increase or decrease. £ £ Note circulation — 6,486,766 648,848 decrease. Government deposits—--4,995,737 1,339,871 increase. Free deposits—--24,498,149 2,275,173 decrease. Fixed deposits—--17,463,713 791,376 increase. Coin and bullion—--7,833,521 192,703 increase. Discounts—--1,458,429 719,180 decrease. Advances—--41,536,017 4,325,975 decrease.
