The death is reported from Paris oi the Marquis de Several, ex-Portuguesc Minister in London, a close friend of Kiiig Edward.
A London message reports the death of Tom Armitage, the Yorkshire cricket professional, aged 74. He was a member of Lillywhite’s Australian team in 1876. A London cable announces the death of Mr. Walter Howard, a well-known dramatist and actor-manager. His first appearance as an actor was at Stratford-on-Avon in 1889, and his first play was “The Wearing o’ the Green,” produced in 189 U. Mr. Cecil Wright, of Stratford, who has been on a trip to England, is expected back in New Zealand in the latter part of November. Advice has been received by Mrs. Wright that Mr. Wright is travelling by the Rimutaka, leaving Britain on October 12. Monsignor Power left for Australia last Saturday in company with Archbishop Redwqod. During his absence the Rev. Father J. E. Rockliff is in charge of the Hawera parish. It is expected that Monsignor Power will be absent about six weeks.
Misses King and Russell, visiting teachers, were accorded a welcome to the meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, held at New Plymouth on Saturday.
