PERSONALS. Miss Olivia Shaw returned last night from a holiday in Hamilton. Airs. E A C. Griffiths and Mrs. Broadhurst Hill, who have been spending' a few days at the mountain, returned op Thursday. Mrs. R. H. George was hostess at a jazz party last Saturday. Mrs. F. T. Bellringer has returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. Mowlem is visiting Auckland. Miss Jessie Home left on Thursday to visit her aunt, Mrs. Tod, at Otane. Mrs. W. Churchward returned to Blenheim on Tuesday. Mrs. W. Williams has returned from Wanganui. Mrs. Geo. Rott left New Plymouth on Wednesday to return to her home in South Africa. Miss Sutton, who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Brewster, returned to Pahiatua to-day. Mrs. C. H. Weston is spending a few days in Wellington. " * * * * Mrs. Simpson and Miss D. Simpson returned on Thursday from Feilding, where they have been the guests of Mrs. Daniel. Mrs. H. Collier has returned from a short visit to Wanganui. Mrs. C. Webster, of Feilding, is visiting friends in New Plymouth. Miss Alice Brewster leaves Sydney today by the Ulimaroa, and should arrive in New Plymouth towards the end of next week. Mrs. Armstrong, of Waitara, is staying with Mrs. C. Lepper. Miss Ernestine Baily, who was spending her holidays in New Plymouth with her mother, Mrs. Hugh Baily, has returned to Wellington. She has been appointed a sister at the Wellington public hospital. Mrs. R. H. Bartley returns from Wanganui to-night. * * * * Miss L. Greatbatch leaves on Tuesday for Auckland, where she will join the Nurses’ Club. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Miss Amy Longley, only daughter of Mrs. Henry Jones, Petone Road, Tataraimaka, to Mr. Rex Honeyfield, second son of Mr. and Mrs. William Honeyfield, Tataraimaka. VICTORIA LEAGUE. The programme for the fortnightly meeting of the Victoria League, to be held on Monday, will be provided by the members of the New Plymouth Shakespeare Club. The selected parts for the reading will be taken from “As You Like It,” “Hamlet,” and “Macbeth.” It would be helpful to those taking part if members of the league would read up the plays beforehand. There will also be some musical items.

A reminder is given that the Victoria League “book title party” takes place on Friday afternoon next.

WEDDINGS. UNSWORTH—DAVIDSON. The Kaponga Methodist Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Thursday. September 28. the occasion being the marriage of Mr. Percy Henry Mafeking Unsworth, of Wellington, to Miss Ivy May Davison, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davison, of Levin. The church had been verv nrett-ilv decorated by friends of the bride, and spring flowers were everywhere in evidance. and a large wedding bell, also decorated with flowers, was. suspended above the bridal party. The Rev. C. H. Kendon officiated. and Mrs. R. Cook presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was daintily attired in a grey tailor-made costume, with hat to match. She was attended by Miss Vera Weakly, of Wellington, and Miss Evelyn Kehely (niece of the bride) as bridesmaids, whilst the bridegroom was attended by Mr. C. Payton as best man and Mr. A. Unsworth (brother of the bridegroom) as groomsman. After the wedding ceremony a reception was held by Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Kehelv (the latter being a sister of the bride) at their residence, Manaia road. Kaponga, where the wedding breakfast 'was spread in Oriental fashion at numerous small tables on the verandah. The Rev. C. 11. Kendon presided, and in a very happy and reminiscent speech proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, to which Mr. Unsworth responded. He proposed the toast of the bridesmaids, to which Mr. ’ Payton responded. Mr. C. Hill, in a very haopy speech, proposed the health of the bride’s parents, and Mr. J. Dav Lon (father of the bride) replied. Mr. AV. Davison proposed the health of the bridegroom’s parents, and Mr. A. T nsworth responded. The health of the host and hostess was proposed by Rev. Mr. Kendon, and Mr. J. Kehely responded. After a congenial social gathering the happy’ couple left with the good wisnes of the assembly by motor for the south, en route for their ntw home. — Star.

HARDING—TAYLOR. A very pretty wedding was solemnised at the Presbyterian Church, Awatuna, on Wednesday, September 27, when George Craig Harding, of Hawera, was married to Jean Taylor, of Awatuna. The church was verv prettilv decorated by the friends of the 'bride. The Rev. Mr. Smith, of Manaia, officiated and Miss Greta Barker presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away bv Mr. J. Carter, of El th am, looked very smart in a fawn tailor-made costume with hat to match. Miss C. Carter. who attended as bridesmaid, was at-

tired in a pretty orange colored crepe-de-chine dress with a large picture hat to match. Mr. A. Barker carried out the duties of best man. After the wedding ceremony the relatives and friends of the bride and bridegroom 'adjourned to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Lind, where the wedding breakfast was partaken of. Mr. J. Carter, after a happy speech, proposed the health of the bridal couple, to which the bridegroom responded. Other toasts honored were those of the bridesmaid, parents of the bride and bridegroom, the officiating clergyman and the host and hostess. Later-the happy couple left by motor en route® for Wanganui, where the honeymoon was spent. The bride’s going away dress was of mole colored gaberdine, with fawn hat relieved with green.—Star.
