PRICE OF FRUIT.
DENIAL OF A RING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Auckland, Last Night. Auckland fruit merchants deny the allegation made in the House by the Hon. J. A. Hanan (Invercargill) that an Auckland fruit ring controlled the distribution of Cook Island fruit. Mr. Hanan’s statement was described as incorrect, and as far as was known there was no ring in the wholesale houses in New Zealand in connection with the distribution of Island oranges and bananas. With reference to the higher prices for island fruit in the south, one merchant said the transport ‘ arrangements prevented. the fruit being sold in the south at rates similar to those in Auckland and Wellington. There was a great risk of fruit not arriving in good condition in the south.
