The opposition to the Government move in regard to corn prices is increasing and has resulted in linking up the United Socialists and the Independents, so the fate of the Government is a matter of urgent political anxiety. THE ITALIAN CATASTROPHE. London, uct. 1. Tn the Spezia disaster the deaths are now 174 and the injured a thousand. It is feared a number of'persons were literally blown to pieces. Many portions of dismembered bodies have been found. The Pope has headed the relief fund. THE PASSION PLAY. Berlin. Oct. 1. The performances of the Passion Play at Oberammergau have concluded. There were 317,000 visitors, and during the season the receipts were 21 million marks, but it is doubtful if they will cover the heavy expenses. Nevertheless, Herr George Lang, the manager, declined the renewed offer by American companies of several million marks for filming the performances.
