DAILY NEWS AGENCY. ■Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office of our local representatative, care Mr. W. H. There was a large attendance at the meeting of Roman Catholic parishioners held last night, for the purpose of arrang ing a function to celebrate Father Maples’ jubilee in the priesthood. A big committee was elected and a further meeting will be held next week. All previous records for attendance at the Stratford primary school were broken yesterday, when 638 pupils were registered as present. This means that only about 20 pupils were absent out of the total roil number. A pleasant time was spent in the Medina Tea Rooms on Thursday evening, when members of the Avon and Stratford Bowling Clubs met at a friendly game of euchre as a return to a similar functioq at the invitation of the Stratford Club some weeks ago. The Stratford players wo a by the handsome majority of 70 points, thus reversing the decision on the previous occasion. Supper was served by Host Witt and was followed by short speeches for the respective clubs. Residents of the Stratford district will have an exceptional opportunity of securing good furniture on Thursday next, when Mr. T. I. Lamason is selling, on account of Mr. W. P. Russell, the whole of his household furniture and effects. Mr. Russell is leaving Stratford to take up his residence in Wellington. The sale will be held at the residence, Fenton Street, on Thursday, commencing at 1 p.m., and those desirous of inspecting before the sale can arrange with the auctioneer to do so. The residents of Stratford and district are notified that Ernest Davies, the London qualified sight-testing optician, visits Stratford every Tuesday, and may be consulted at Mr. Gaffaney’s, Broadway.
