RACING FIXTURES. Sept. 30—Napier Park R.C. Spring. Oct. 4—Hawke’s Bay J.C. Spring. Oct. s—Kurow J.C. Spring. Oct - 7—Oamaru J.C. Spring. Oct - ~—Pakuranga Hunt Annual. Oct. 12, 14—Dunedin J.C. Spring. Oct. 13, 14—Masterton R.C. Spring. PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB. ACCEPTANCES FOR MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The acceptances for the Pakuranga Hunt •Club meeting are as follow: MAIDEN HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE. About two miles.

RACING IN ENGLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 29. 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 28. The Jockey Club Stakes resulted: Lady Juror 1, Batourouge 2, Glorioso 3. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.”) Napier Park to-day. Races at Hastings on Wednesday. Beauford v. Gloaming at Randwick to-day. Matatua. is due to win a hurdle race any time now. It is time that punters took a tumble to Alteration. Two of the progeny of Lady Disdain—Bluff and Contempt—won at Ashburton. From all accounts the official times put up’ at Otaki were not to be relied upon. Para was made too much use of on the I seconod day at Otaki. Otherwise she must have wnn. Mark Time is Al. again, and will probably be produced in open sprints at Masterton. Bathos, Ballymena and Rapine were the only first favorites to score at Avondale. Poor punters! Urgency was backed for n. ton of money on the second day at Avondale, but ran badly, and is apparently over-rated. The Wanganui-owned Homage (Absurd—Euloev) was unlucky to miss on Monday- last, but wdl make amends shortly. Rapine dashed up in the concluding stages nf the Avondale Guineas and won like a good one. On paper the Hawke’s Bay Guineas looks "cold meat” for him. The Ashburton course must have been fast on Saturday last when Falstaff carried 12.8 irta second place in the twelve furlongs hurdle rnep. being only beaten by three lengths in 2i>’in. 47sec. An exchange gives Tussore and E’ghteenpence as full brother and sister. Both arc by Nassau, certainly, but the hooks give the former’s dam as Brocade, while the southerner is out of Garston. As a. matter of fact Leithfleld and Eighteenpence are full sisters. After racing unsuccessfully at. Otaki, Complimentary was returned to his owner, and is now spelling at Marton. Another of Ted Penman’s charges, Adrina, was sent home to Bulls. Of the £B5OO offered in stakes at Avondale two owners. Messrs. A. B. Williams (£2000) and W. J. Wilson (£1400) took the bulk. Mr. E. A. Andrews’ share was £2OO. and Mr. D. J. Hughes had to he content with £7O. Possibly- Admiral Codrington’s condition will pull him through at Greenmeadows to-day. but Anomaly- races well when fresh, and is likely to give the top weight, a good race. Before being sent to Marton Taipairu was reported to have beaten Admiral Codrington over a mile. Taipairu ran poorly at Marton, but may do better at the Park. Enthusiasm is easily the best of the Panmure breed we have seen yet. though Pantier, Panache, and one or two others have shown fair form. Enthusiasm is a filly- of groat promise. Mr. E. A. Connolly owns both Rostrum and Fleuriste. the favorites for the Epsom Handicap, run to-day, and both arc regarded as certain starters. Rostrum appears to have a great chance with 8.12, but possibly Mr. Connolly is also giving the light-weight—Fleuriste has 7.2—a run in case of accidents. Cupidon art Laval IrUh will km '« .how Urttw

ment on recent form to beat the elect of Mr. Connolly’s pair. The A.J.C. Derby, which will also be run at Randwick tn-day, will only draw a small field At latest advices Caserta is a strong favorite, and Soorak and Tressayr are also well backed. The ex-New Zealander, H. Cairns, will ride Caserta. 1 "Cuth” Morse’s appeal against the Otaki stewards’ disqualification will bO heard in Wellington on Monday next. Tnc appeal of the jockey, Nixon, who was concerned in the Mongokino case, will be heard at the same ' Concerning the A.J.C. Derby favorites, a Sydney writer states: "Nothing shaped more impressively than the Victorian colt Caserta (Comedy King—Sessa) at Rosehill. Carrying 9.5, he came from a long way back and won the mile Novice Handicap with ease from the well-trind Duke Napolo and the Newcastleowned Cliffdnle. Soorak and Tressayr showed speed in I’m Chelmsford Stakes, but gave no evidence of stamina. Immediately after Mark Time failed to draw the weight after finishing first in the opening event at the Wanganui spring meeting, all sorts of rumors, as stated in these columns at the time, were in circulation, but it was no use crying over spilt milk, and the matter was allowed to drop. However, it remained for the Weekly Press scribe "Wayfarer” to open a hornet’s nest by suggesting that "it was understood that a rubber had been carelessly thrown aside during the process of saddling.” This brought a prompt and indignant denial from the owner, Mr. Galsford, and, in a letter which appears in thist week’s Weekly Press above his name, he makes several statements which should be thoroughly Investigated for the good of the sport. Mr. Galsford states that Mark Time (first) weighed out 9.3%, and weighed in 9.2% —his weight, including apprentice’s allowance, should have been 9.3. Further, Bonlbrook (second, and the eventual winner) weighed out 8.2%, in 8.2 ; while in the same race Santiago weighed out 7.0%, in 7.0. The public may draw their own conclusions from the above figures. The writer, who heard all this at the time, was an Interested party (as a backer of Mark Time), so said nothing. What "Moturoa” thought—well, you can guess it easily ! Excitement over the Beauford-Gloaming fight for supremacy is now running high, both in New Zealand and in Australia, and if the whole business had been "stage managed” by J. C .Willia.mson and Co. things could not have been worked up to a better climax than promised to-day. Granted that both horses are fit/ and well, their entirely different showings in the Chelmsford Stakes and Hill Stakes have got the public completely tied up. At the outset this scribe favored Beauford, and with even riding conditions sees no reason to alter that opinion. Gloaming’s rider was alleged to have been out-generalled in the

Chelmsford Stakes, but Sydney critics are silent as to Wood’s handling of Beauford at Rosohill. When you come to look at it, what was Wood's object in asking Beauford to break records from one furlong to six furlongs in the Hill Stakes, when he knew he had a rattling good horse (Gloaming) lurking in the rear? Did Wood expect that he could put so much landscape between himself and George Young in the early stages that the said; panorama could not be wiped out at the end? Of course, nobody suggests that, the contest was not all "on the level,” but with two evenly matched champions horsemanship is a big factor in swinging the scale towards success oi* failure. To-day’s race, over a imlle and a half, will see different tactics followed—and while the cracks are busy "finessing”—David, or one other of the genuine stayers, may beat the pair of them. This is all supposition, but with Beauford the horse that he was in the autumn, Beauford will do me to-day. On Monday, the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and five furlongs, will bring together a fine field. The final- acceptors include the favorites, Purser, Cupidon, Prince Sandy and Bitalli. Cupidon has shown steady improvement in his races, and with a smooth passage is likely to be in at, the death. At latest advices Loyal Irish and Molyneaux were at long prices for the race, and neither may prove quite class enough, though most New Zealanders would, If thej’ were on the spot, take a rough chance about Molyneaux for a place.
