SATURDAY’S DRUNKS.

INFLUENCE OF FOOTBALL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 28. A new light was thrown on the advantages of football by the remarks of a police official who found a larger batch of drunks in the cells than usual. “We shall get more now the football season is closing.” he said, and went on to remark that there were more inebriates on Saturdays in summer than at any other time. Not nearly so< many attended summer sports, but in the football season there were numbers who would not miss a seat for anything. “Half of them won’t know what to do with their Saturdays from now on. Sport is something to take an interest in and, when they are not working, is what keeps people sober.”
