It was highly successful, and the firm rates established at the opening sales were maintained throughout. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Received Sept. 28, 10.45 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 28. Oats.—Algerian feed 3s 9d to 4s 3d; white, local and New Zealand, 4s to 4s 4d. Maize.—Yellow 5s 7d to 5s 8d; white, 5s 6d to 5s 7d. Potatoes.—Tasmanian, £l2 to £l3. Onions.—Victorian, £l3 to £l3 10s; American, £lB. Adelaide, Sept. 28. Oats, 3s to 3s 2d. CALCUTTA TEA SALES. Calcutta, Sept. 27. At the tea sales, average prices were realised. Commonest wire leaf brought 9 annas 6 pice to 10 annas 6 pice; broken leaf, 8 annas 6 pice to 8 annas 9 pice; ordinary common Pejoe souchong, 10 annas 3 pice to 10 annas 9 pice; lowest even leaf Pekoe, 10a 3p to 10a 9p. There was a very strong and active demand for good general at a very small advance of a quarter to half an anna in neat Pekoes and orange pekoes. Ordinary broken pekoe and souchong broken pekoes advanced a half to one anna. Fannings were more difficult to buy, and sometimes showed an advance of H anna per lb. Really good liquoring teas sold well in sellers’ favor. Dust was stronger.
