BATHING HOURS.
RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL. Delegates from various bodies interested in swimming met Borough Council representatives on Saturday afternoon to discuss matters pertaining to the municipal baths, the principal purpose of the meeting being the recommendation of bathing hours. There were present: Messrs. J. Brown. R. A. Large, and R. Day (Borough Council representatives), Misses Macintosh (Girls' High School), Dowling and Mather (Ladies’ Life-Saving Club), Messrs. W. H. Moyes (Boys’ High School), *. G. Howell (Royal LifeSaving 'Society) and F. G. Eggleton (New Plymouth Swimming Club). Mr. Brown presided. The desire to cater for as many of the swimming public as possible, coupled with the opinion that lias been freely expressed by swimming bodies that more mixed bathing should be introduced, largely guided those present in framing the following programme which will be submitted to the Borough Council for confirmation: Ladies’ hours.—Daily, 5.30 a.m. to 6.30 a.m.; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 2.30 p.m. to 3.15 p.m.; Monday and Wednesday, 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Men’s hours. —Daily, 6.30 a.m. to 8 a.m.; Tuesday and Friday, 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. School children’s hours.—Every school day from 3.15 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. The matter of arranging days for boys and days for girls will be left in the hands ■of the teachers. The Boys’ High School will be allotted from 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. It is recommended that the remain-. ing hours the baths are open be devoted to mixed bathing. •Sunday hours will remain practically the same as last season, the ladies being granted an hour, the men an hour, whilst the remaining time will be given over to mixed bathing. The baths will officially close at 9.30 on Sundays to suit the tide if necessary, but the hour may be extended up till 11 o’clock if circumstances permit. It was also suggested that on one or two nights during the week the baths be open from 7 till 9 for mixed bathing. It was recommended to the baths committee of the Borough Council that the by-laws in respect to the baths be strictly enforced. Mr. Eggleton, on behalf of the swimming club, raised the questions of new diving boards and better lighting. Mr. Brown undertook to approach the electrical engineer (Mr. Bartley) with a view to his suggesting something to improve the present lighting system. Miss Dowling suggested the installation of a hot water shower, a matter Mr. Day promised to inquire into.
