MEMORIAL SERVICE.

THE LATE MRS. W. DREW. A very impressive memorial service to the late Mrs. W. Drew, relict of the Rev $ W. Drew, for many years Baptist miniate at’ New Plymouth, was held at the Baptist Tabernacle, New Plymouth, yesterday morning. There -was an unusiuUly large congregation, while the white flowers and the draping of the rostrum and communion rail added to the beauty and solemnity of the service. Taking as his text verse 38 of the 20th chapter of St. Luke’s Gospel, “Now He is not a God of the dead, but of the living, for all live unto Him,” the Rev. A. C. H. Collins preached a very eloquent sermon on immortality, concluding his address with special reference to Mrs. Drew. “This is no occasion for hopeless grief,” he said, “and no place for human eulogy. Our friend has no doubt heard the Master’s ‘Well done,’ and she would be the first to say ‘By Grace lam what I am.’ But Mrs. Drew was a woman of exceptional character and parts. She was a good wife, a faithful mother, a worthy citizen, and a- humble Christian. Home was her chosen sphere of service and her children are her best memorial. Though not robust in health she found time for public service, and, what is more remarkable, she made time to cultivate an exceptional familiarity with books. This church has good reason to cherish the memory of Mrs. Drew, for she came to it with the ministry of her husband at a plastic and formative period of its history and she has left an impress on the lives of many that will not soon pass away.” The hymns were appropriate to the occasion, while the choir gave a very feeling rendering of the anthem, “Peace, be Still.”
