N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

MEETING OF PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. The monthly i»eeting of the Taranaki Provincial Executive of the Farm : era’ Union was held at Hawera yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. F. Mills (chair), Cleaver, Owen, Swindlehurst, Bash ford, Rushin, Seed, Gawith, Pierce, and Buckeridge (secretary). The Dominion secretary (Mr. E. Jack) wrote forwarding a suggested letter for submission to all candidates for Parliament, in which they were asked to subscribe to the policy of the Farmers’ Union in respect to agricultural banks, co-operative marketing schemes, producers’ shipping line, and reduction in taxation. The circular letter was read, Mr. Rushin contending that all farmers had to support the views set forth, or else they would go under altogether. The chairman said that the members of the Farmers’ Union would be informed of the candidates’ opinions on these four important subjects. The Farmers’ Union was a non-party organisation, but its members would have an opportunity of knowing the views of the candidates on the subjects of vital importance to them. They could then exercise their votes in any way they thought fit. The Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society wrote stating that in conjunction with the local branch of the Farmers’ Union they were inaugurating a calf-rearing club, and would be pleased to have copies of record sheets and any advice which the Taranaki Executive could give.—It was decided to comply with the request. The head teacher of the Fraser Road school forwarded some entries for the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club competitions.—Received.

The Dominion secretary forwarded a copy of the Union’s evidence given to the Taxation Committee, and also a copy of the report as presented to Parliament.—Received.—Star.
