NORSEWOOD JUBILEE.
NORWEGIAN PIONEERS. J By Telegraph.— Press Association. Dannevirke, Sept. 21. The foundation of the present prosperous district of 5O years ago, was celebrated yesterday by the settlers in fine weather. Many of the original settlers, who are now old and infirm, were present and the big assemblage included Sir George Hunter, M.P., Lady Hunter, and Mr. Wiig (Norwegian Vice-Consul in the Dominion), who came from Invercargill to be present. Speeches appropriate to the occasion were delivered and a memorial oak planted by the oldest original settler, aged ninety, to mark the golden jubilee A national flag was presented by the Norwegian Vice-Consul and a beautiful wreath placed at the foot of the oak tree in loving memory of the pioneers. Sir George Hunter unveiled a polished granite memorial slab, which will nerpetuate the occasion, and a cablegram was read from the Norwegian Consul-General in Melbourne conveying from the Norwegian Government greetings from the homeland to the pSaneers and their descendants.
