CRICKET.

OLD BOYS’ CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club was held at New Plymouth last night, when Mr. A. Bewley presided over a good attendance. The third annual report stated that as the membership had somewhat increased since the previous season, it was found possible to enter both a senior and junior ream, and the hope was expressed tiiat sufficient young members would be leaving school this year to permit of the same number of teams being entered again. The senior team was captained by A. Osborne, and despite the fact that some difficulty was often experienced in getting a team together, the club did not lose any match bj’ default. The senior team played 12 matches, winning 7 and losing 5. Considering the fact that the junior team was almost an untried one, getting no practice, it did extremely well. ' Regret was expressed at the death du: ng the year of Mr. W. Bewley, and sympathy was expressed to his relatives. Despite the small membership, there was a small credit balance, but additional expenditure would have to be met this year. A credit balance of £2 Ils 6d was disclosed. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman congratulated the club on a successful season. The club would have to consider expenditure on additional material this year, as last year they were under an obligation to the High School in this matter. He agreed with the suggestion that two days should be devoted to the playing of matches, as last season it had been at times impossible to conclude play in one day. Mr. L. M. Monteath seconded the motion, which was carried. Officers for the year were elected as follows: President. Dr. E. F. Fookes: vice-presidents. Rev. S. S. Osborne. Messrs. R. George, Bennett, W. H. Moyes: treasurer, Mr. C. Lash; secretary, Mr. J. D. Willis: committtee, Messrs. A. Osborne, C. G. Bottrill, A. J. Papps, A. Bewley, P. Hawkins, L. Harris; club captain, Mr. A. Bewley ; delegates to asociation, Messrs. Bottrill, Osborne and Hawkins, the latter being appointed junior delegate in the event of the club being entitled’ to three/delegates. The subscription was fixed at 27/6 (reducible to 22/6) for seniors, and 17/6 (reducible to 12/6) for jqniors. The club supported the levy of 2/6 per player proposed by the association. The opening date was left to the committee to decide. Mr. Papps mentioned that an Auckland team was going on tour this year, and he thought a match against a Taranaki team should be arranged if possible. The matter will be referred to the delegates, to bring before the association. A. vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Moyes and the school authorities for the use of grounds, for providing refreshments, and for ail assistance given throughout the past season. Mr. Monteath moved that a recommendation be made to accept as member Mr. Peerless, a member of another Old Boys’ Association, who had come to live in New Plymouth. It was mentioned that Mr. Peerless had represented New Zealand on the cricket field. The motion was carried. The question of club colors and a club cup was raised by Mr. Bottrill. The secretary was instructed to ascertain the cost of caps and blazers and to report to the committee. A vote of thanks was accorded the Press. ITINERARY OF McLAREN’S TEAM. DISAPPOINTMENT IN TARANAKI. Keen disappointment is felt amongst cricketers in North Taranaki that the New Zealand Council has not arranged for the visiting English team to have a match in Taranaki. The local asociation has been in communication with the council for some time, but no explanation has been offered as to why a match has not been arranged. Since the itinerary was published, the secretary of the local association has telegraphed and also written to the council in the hope of yet being able to have the itinerary amended so as to include a visit to New Plymouth, and Mr. E. Whlttlte, president of the association, who is at present in Christchurch, intends pressing the claims of Taranaki for a match with the visitors. PLAY IN ENGLAND. Received Sept. 19, 8.55 p.rn. London, September 18. Yorkshire, in their second innings, made 274 (Rhodes 96, Dolphin 50). The Rest of England have 27 for no wickets.
