(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Power Board met on Friday afternoon. Present: The chairman (Mr. C. A. Trotter) and Messrs. M. O’brien, H. Young, J. P. Burton, W. J. F. Chambers .and C. H. Hurst. The foreman's report stated that good, progress had been made with the excavating work for the power house. The work of fencing in the drain has been put in hand. The route for reticulation had been pegged out. Something like 1918 poles are required. It is expected that the machinery for the power house will arrive here before Christmas. It is reported that a picture firm will open in the Town Hall shortly. Nominations of candidates to the Town Board closed on Wednesday. The following are the candidates: Dr. Watt, Messrs. C. A. Trotter, A. Richards, F. Hammond. G. Feaver, W. Gunson. G. Sinister, D. 0. A. Stewart, H. Holmes. The three first named are retiring members of the old board. Ten candidates are seeking election and five are required. The old. complaint that new men do not take sufficient interest in local government affairs is not warranted in this election. On Monday a certain amount of water was allowed to flow into the recentlyconstructed hydro-electric dam preparatory to stocking it with trout fry. There was an exceptionally good display of exhibits at the spring flower show on Monday, which was a record for spring shows. Cut blooms were first class, but the narcissi were not so good as on previous occasions. The cooking classes were exceptionally good, while an improvement was shown in the children’s section. Miss Forsyth was awarded championship for cut blooms. Mrs. Mouri secured the most first prizes in cut blooms. Mrs. Moore coming next. In the decorative section Mrs. R. J. Morris, Misses Davies and Mouri shared most honors. In the cooking section Mesdames Fleming. J. Stevenson. Pentelow, S. Coombes. R. J. Morris, J. Clouston. and Moore were the principal prize takers. This was the best competitive section in the show. The juvenile dancing competitions were exceptionally good. The Highland fling for novices was won by Mavis Lyttle, with Joyce Hickman second and Ruth Macdonald third. The under 14 resulted: Jean Kirk 1. Mary McLeod 2, N. Langton 3. About six competitors. Irish jig: D. Clouston 1. B. Ross 2. J. Kirk 3. Mrs. Seagar judged the damyng and Mr. J. Kirk plaved the pipes. Recitation under 12 years: Peggy Burton 1. L. Fleming 2, L. Ross 3. Miss Fleming (Oaonui schoolgirl) was a versatile competitor at the show, winning the first prize for writing (under 12 years), a good second in the recitation and a prize taken in the Highland dancing. Mr. H. Mann judged the flower classes. Mr. Pulford the cooking and Mrs. McHardy the decorative classes.
