OLD BOYS ACTIVE.

HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM. GALA DAY PROPOSED. At a meeting of old boys of the New Plymouth High School last night arrangements were made and committees set up to organise a gala day at the High School grounds in aid of a gymnasium for the school. It will be remembered that the former gymnasium I was destroyed in the fire of 191 G. Mr. R. H. George presided. Mr. W. ' H. Moyes (principal of the Boys’ High I School), on being asked to outline a ( scheme, suggested that the old boys • could not do better than run a gala ■ day on the lines of the one so successi fully organised during the war period 'in aid of the patriotic funds. He could j guarantee to make arrangements for the i running of a produce stall. Mr. Moyes pointed out that in helping the schoc-1 old boys would be helping themselves, as the proposed gymnasium would be available for the use of the old boys. It was mentioned that a ladies’ committee had been formed and .were at present at work organising flower, sweets and fancy stalls. On a call being made for suggestions for side shows and other attractions which might be incorporated in the scheme, various proposals were submitI ted, which the executive will take into ' consideration. These included a rifle range (which Mr. Moyes undertook to I organise), coconut shy, hoop-la, Punch ! and Judy show, bran tub. picture show, j putting and other competitions, boxing bouts, sheep-guessing, produce stall, etc. i Afternoon tea will be available, whilst i two other suggestions were a procession from the town to the grounds and a j cabaret dance to follow the gala day. It is hoped also to enlist the support of the Battalion Band. Committees were then set up to organise the various side shows, stalls, etc., and an executive committee elected as follows: Messrs. R. H. George. W. 11. Moyes, L. B. Webster, J. B. Wilson, R. G. Howell, C. H. Wynyard. H. Kirkby, A. Bewley, A. M. Mac Diarmid and E. D. -Colson.
