CONFERENCE AT ELTHAM. VISITING DELEGATES ENTERTAINED. The visiting delegates who attended the annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, which was held at Eltham on. Thursday, will leave for their homes by the UAiH train this morning. On Thursday evening they were entertained ' by the Taranaki Centre at a smoke concert. Mr. J. A. Hansen, president of the local centre, presided, and an interesting and enjoyable time was spent. Yesterday they were taken for a trip to various points of interest. The party, which numbered about 24, accompanied by Messrs. J. lb. Bmamb (president), J. Paterson, D. Ma-

lone, C. Burke (members of the executive) and A. Melville (secretary), first visited Kapongu, where they were welcomed by Mr. Allen, de-puty-chairman of the Town Board, and Mr. Casey, president of the Kaponga Athletic Club., After Inspecting the hydro-electric works, they were entertained at luncheon at the Kapong% Hotel by the Kaponga Athletic Club. They afterwards proceeded to Kaupokonui, and were shown through the factory by the manager and some of the directors. At Manaia, which was visited next, they were met by the Mr. Landers, president of the Manaia Athletic Club, and were entertained to afternoon tea. They were then taken to Te Ngutu o te Mana, via Riverdale, where an excellent view of the Waimate Plains was secured, and the return trip to Eltham was made via Normanby. The visitors expressed themselves as delighted with the splendid roads passed over, and also the magnificent country which they traversed. They were also loud in their praise of the hospitality extended to them during their stay.
