ATHLETICS.

CIRCULAR ROAD RACE. The executive of the Taranaki Circular Road Race Committee met on Wednesday night. Those present were: Messrs. J. McLeod, A. George, p. Douglass, O. George, G. Mclsaac, and the secretary (Mr. E. L. Humphries). Mr. McLeod was appointed chairman. It was decided to approach the Jockey Club for permission to run three motor-cycle events for amateur riders on the afternoon of the race. In the event of the necessary permission being obtained, a sub-committee consisting of Messrs. P. Douglass, H. Townsley, J. McLeod, O. George and M. Julian was appointed to arrange the programme. Mr. O. George intimated that the U.S. Tire and Rubber Co. and the Barnett Glass Co. had offered motor tires for the competitions. In addition tires were given by Messrs. George and Julian and A. George and a gold medal by Mr. P. Douglass. Mr. A. Hansen was appointed handicapper for the road race. The secretary reported that so far 11 nominations had been received. There had been numerous inquiries from as far north as Dargaville, whilst a number had come from the South Island, and it Is expected that a large number of nominations will come in during this week. Entries close on Saturday night.
