PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE RESUMES TO-DAY. RAILWAY ADMINISTRATION. NEW FINANCE BILL. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The House of Representatives will meet to-morrow, and the consideration of Government Bills is to be the important business of the week. Some additional measures are expected to be introduced to-morrow and others are to follow. The order paper is thin at the present time, but it will be expanded to some extent during the week. The Minister for Railways probably will be able this week to give the House details of his arrangements for the strengthening of the railway administration. He has indicated already that a railway board is to be constituted, and that commercial agents are to be appointed, but the names of the new officers have not been announced, and their duties have not been defined exactly.
The Prime Minister has stated that he will introduce a Finance Bill dealing with the income tax among other matters. This Bill is not likely to reach the House during the present week. The committee that has been considering the petitions asking for the licensing of bookmakers has completed its work. The committee will be following precedent if it merely refers the question of the policy to the Government.
