CARNIVAL FOR MAORIS.

A POLITICAL GATHERING. By Telegraph -Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. Between 200 and 300 natives are expected to gather at Parikino, on the Wanganui River, next week. The gathering will extend over four days, a Rugby football tournament, in which six Maori teams are competing, being the day feature, while the evenings will be devoted to dances, concerts and political speeches in connection with the candidature of Ratana’s son. The lower river natives deny the recent statement in regard to destitution among the Maoris, and say it is confined to one settlement higher up the river.
