LUCERNE.
All farmers, and especially dairy farmers, are recommended to read the booklet on “How to Grow Lucerne,” as it contains a special article by E. Butt, of Ben Mbfvefi, Marlborough, on Lucerne Cultivation. It will be remembered that Mr. Butt lectured on lucerne at the recent Palmerston North A. and P. VVinter Show, and the fact that the Government (Biologist recently declared that a sample of Ben Morven lucerne is the finest sample that he has handled this season, proves the value of anything Mr. Butt writes with reference to lucerne cultivation. Mr. R. McCallum, M.P., has received the following communication from the Hon. W. Nos worthy, Minister for Agriculture: —“With further reference to your letter of the Ist ultimo, enclosing one from E. Butt, of Ben Morven, Blenheim, together with samples of lucerne seed, I duly submitted this matter to the officers of my Department, and I am in receipt of the following report .*by the Biologist: ‘The two samples of lucerne have been carefully examined. The sample of Marlborough grown seed is without doubt the finest sample of Marlborough lucerne that has passed through my hands this season, and I am doubtful if I have ever seen a better sample of farmer’s dressed seed before. In its present condition, provided the sample is representative of the bulk, it' is far superior to the average first-grade double-dressed seed of z thi3 season’s harvest.’”' .
