RULES OF RUGBY.
IMPORTANT CHANGES PROPOSED. ABOLITION OF WING FORWARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Important recommendations for alterations to Rugby rules in the Dominion, formulated by Mr. Dean, manager of the All Blacks who were recently in Australia, were presented to the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-nigf *. Mr. Dean stated the New '’“Glanders were handicapped owing to a different interpretation of the rules in New South Wales, particularly in regard to the wing forward, who, according to the referee’s ruling, was invariably offside when his team secured possession in the scrum. In order to get ovpr the difficulty in the last test the team ■was compelled to play what was tantamount to an imaginary line through the bacK scrum. After making various recommendations, including an interchange of referees to bring about uniformity. Mr. Dean said he was not favorably inclined to the present day wine forward, and suggested his entire abolition, so as to fal’ in line with other Rugby playing countries. He also advocated a three-two-three serum. Such alterations would brighten the game and tend to eliminate playin'? the man. He also recommended that New Zealand should take steps for the adontion of uniform rules allowing an absolute free kick. The discussion on the report was deferred till next meeting.
