MAORIS DESTITUTE.
NO FOOD OR CLOTHING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Wanganui, Last Night. Information has been received by the Wanganui River Trust Board that nativ?s at some of the settlements along the Wanganui River are in a state of destitution and are urgently requiring help. At one settlement eight children have died within the last three months. It was stated that in another locality the Maoris were spending theii time and money on football and were neglecting tj plant food supplies, and that in other places the natives had impoverished themselves by travelling and accumulating food supplies to attend meetings of Ratana, the native “miracless man. In one instance a single native contribution of food was valued at £2OO. The Board decided to help the natives with gifts of old clothing.
