RELIEF FOR SOLDIERS SOUGHT. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Massey stated to-day, in reply to a question asked by Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki), that it is not proposed to exempt from stamp duty the instruments of dissolution of partnership made between soldiers who have held land, etc., under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act. “The department has informed me,” added the Premier, “that exempting particular classes of transactions tends towards a leakage in the revenue. If exemptions from stamp duty are made in favour of particular classes of persons the difficulties of administration are much increased, especially after a lapse of time.
