HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

THE TARANAKI BOARD. THE MONTHLY MEETING. The second monthly meeting of the Taranaki 'Electric Power Board was held at Eltham yesterday. Present: Messrs. H. G. Carmen (chairman), G. Sangster, T. R. Anderson, W. V. Harkness, W. H. Were, C E. McGuinness, and C. J. Belcher. The clerk read replies received from various power boards throughout the Dominion with regard to working conditions, rules, officials' allowances, etc. On the motion of Mr. Were it was decided that the chairman’s allowance be £2OO per annum. Members’ fees, other than that of the chairman, were fixed at £1 per day, plus travelling expenses of Is per mile, one way, for attendance at meetings. For special business the remuneration was fixed at £1 per day, and actual expenses meurred. A deputation from the New Plymouth Borough Council, consisting of Messrs. F. fT. Bellringer (general manager), R. H. Bartley (electrical engineer), J. Kibby and F. J. Hill (councillors), conferred with the board, in committee, with reference to the proposal to obtain temporary power from New Plymouth. A draft agreement suggesting conditions was discussed and revised, being held over for further discussion by the respective parties.. The Stratford Borough Council wrote, asking for details concerning the supply of power from the board. The board decided that it could not state definitely when a supply would be available, nor at what price. In joining the power district it would be necessary for the council to pay aTI incidental expenses. Mr. B. Horner, civil engineer, of Stratford, submitted details of a proposed new scheme for the generation of power. The scheme was discussed in committee, it being later reported that the following resolution had been carried: That before the board further considers Mr. Honner’s scheme, the Public Works Department be asked to report on the feasibilitv of same.

The scheme submitted to the last meeting by Messrs. Climie and Sons was discussed at length in committee, the outcome being that the engineers were instructed to submit a report on a modified scheme calculated to.develop 500 to 1000 horse power, the report to come before the next meeting on October 6.
