BUTTER AND CHEESE.

IMPROVED PRICES LONDON SHORTAGE SOON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Producers’ Co-opera-tive Marketing Association has compiled figures of butter and cheese shipments, which have barely arrived and are afloat, from which it is inferred statistically that the market should presently improve. The shipments are xs follow:

No cheese is likely to be lifted m New Zealand before the end of the month, greater interest than usual being shown in the manufacture of butter. From the figures above quoted it seems there will be something like a shortage of New Zealand butter and cheese bh the London market, with a corresponding improvement in prices for October.

LONDON BUYERS INACTIVE. NO CHANGE IN QUOTATIONS. The London butter market, according to the latest information received in Auckland, is showing little activity, though there is practically no alteration in the quotations for New Zealand butter, says thfe Herald. The market conditions are reflected to a certain extent in Auckland, there having been no inquiries for new season’s make during the last few days. Experts in the industry stated that'they attached little significance to the race- t lack of inquiry on the part of British I ere. New Zealand dairy companies h. k evinced little desire to sell at prices recently offered by overseas buyers, and a dull market in London would naturally result in further offers being withheld. One authority stated that during the last six months inquiries for butte* had fluctuated greatly. When the London market became inactive inquiry from overseas ceased, but any upward movement, or even activity without increase in price, caused the inquiry in the Dominion to be’ renewed. Sometimes offers were received in New Zealand before any movement in the London market was recorded, but the offers invariably were followed by a change in the market within a few days.
