COPRA SCHOONER LOST.

SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION. By Telegraph.—Press CorvrlgM Sydney, Sept. 2. The crew of the schooner John A. Campbell has arrived in Newcastle. Captain Ferem explained that smoke was noticed from the after hatch about norni on August 1, when the loading of copra had been almost completed. The crew and a handful of Tarawa settlers were unable to cope with the flames, and the vessel was abandoned when midnight approached. The Resident Commissioner found that the fire had been caused accidentally. Captain Ferem says it was generally believed to be due to spontaneous combustion.
