Sutton says that the Hawera men are having a glorious time. O’Callaghan, L. Quin and he managed to get in the favored 16. He drew Bell (plus 1), who went round in 78, and beat him, 5 and 4. O'Callaghan met Morpeth, and the latter beat him, 8 and 7. Morpeth’s card was truly wonderful. It was as follows: Out—3, 4,4, 4,4, 4,4, 4, 4—35. Home—3, 4,4, 3, 5,4, 3, 4—34. Total 69. 11 up on Bogey. Mr. Sutton adds: "I understand that the previous record for these links, which we all consider are the very finest and best we have ever played on (fairways are. without exception, equal to most private lawns) was Kirkwood’s 71. Morpeth did 69, 11 up on Bogey. Morpeth has been away on his farm for the past two years, and has been playing just two weeks. He looks a real good proposition for the New Zealand championship. It looks likely that Lusk and Morpeth will play off. O’Callaghan and I play together in the four-ball match, and Quin and Royan. We have had a real good time so far, and the weather is like the middle of summer down our way.’’
