THE GERMAN MARK.
CURRENCY BROKEN DOWN. INCREASING PAPER OUTPUT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, August 31. The Berlin correspondent of the Times says that the currency has completely broken down. Only very early callers at the banks had their cheques cashed. There were heated altercations with employers on finding they could not pay out the monthly salaries, the workers receiving only a portion of their wages. The printing presses will work ceaselessly during the week end. The daily output is 3000 million marks, including notes of 10.000 marks denomination, which are likely shortly to become small change. Increasing prices may necessitate a still greater output of paper money.
